China online arrival card: fill it in before you fly (2026 guide for Thai travellers)

Foreign visitors can now fill in China's arrival card online before they land. The service started on 20 November 2025. Paper cards are still available at the airport for anyone who has not done it in advance, so this is a time-saver, not a new requirement.

Where to fill it in

  • The National Immigration Administration (NIA) online service platform
  • The NIA 12367 mobile app
  • The NIA WeChat mini-program
  • The NIA Alipay mini-program
  • By scanning the official QR code

What to have ready

  • Your passport
  • Your flight number
  • The address of your first hotel in China

Take a screenshot when you finish, in case you are asked at the counter.

Who does not need an arrival card

  • Holders of a Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card
  • Travellers on a group visa or group visa-free arrangement
  • Passengers transiting within 24 hours who stay in the airport's restricted area
  • Cruise passengers entering and leaving on the same ship

Thai passport holders: the basics

  • Visa-free entry for up to 30 days per visit, and no more than 90 days in any 180 days, under the permanent mutual visa exemption in force since 1 March 2024.
  • Passport valid for at least six months, plus a return ticket and hotel booking.
  • Working or studying at a university still needs a visa in advance.
