6. Recommendations before you pay
- Pay only the contract party. Require the company's own RMB or USD account in the name on the contract, confirmed on its letterhead and by a call-back to a verified number.
- Contract with the real manufacturer, or add it to the contract. We can verify the named factory and arrange a direct quote.
- Change the payment terms. 10% deposit, balance after an independent pre-shipment inspection, or a letter of credit.
- Fix the contract. Bilingual contract with product specification, delivery date, a late-delivery penalty and a clear dispute clause.
- Replace the certificate. Ask for a CE or other test report that can be verified with the issuing body, or test samples in an accredited lab.
- Inspect before the balance. Pre-shipment inspection and loading supervision.
7. Questions to ask the supplier
- Why is payment requested to a Hong Kong company, and what is its relationship to you?
- Which factory produces the goods, and can we visit it?
- Please explain the 2025 non-delivery case and its current status.
A 30% deposit on this order is about US$. Paid to an unrelated account, it would be very hard to recover through the courts.
