Why the days are in this order

  • The Forbidden City is closed on Mondays and Yu Garden is closed on Mondays, so both fall on other days.
  • Friday (23 October) is in Beijing, so the family can join Friday prayer at Niujie Mosque, Beijing's oldest mosque.
  • The trip avoids National Day Golden Week (1 to 7 October 2026) and ends before the 1 November switch to winter opening hours.
  • Beijing to Xi'an is by the fastest high-speed train (about 4 hours 12 minutes). Xi'an to Shanghai is by air (about 2 hours 15 minutes), which is much faster than the 6.5-hour train.
